About

The Thrive Neurodevelopment Center is a Home school Centre for children with Special Needs and Learning Difficulties.

At Thrive , we recognises that each child is an individual and each learners has different needs. We also recognise that all learners do not learn in the same way or at the same pace. So instead of a one-shoe-fits all approach we aim to create a safe, caring and respectful multicultural environment, in which all our learners can THRIVE regardless of their challenges. We want to foster a desire to learn, so that children can become self- confident and independent. We want to nurture the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of so that each child can best develop the skills and character necessary to integrate successfully into adulthood.
We accommodate children with Down’s Syndrome, Autism, Undiagnosed Syndromes, Neurological delays, Sensory Integration difficulties and Specific or non-specific Learning Difficulties.
We offer Individualized Educational Programs that cater for each child’s needs in terms of: Differentiated CAPS Classes, Vocational Programs, Functional Fine and Gross Motor Development and Makaton Sign Language.
Children are taught a Qualified teacher and assistant teachers. We offer safe and comfortable learning and play areas, but keep group sized small to ensure individual attention is given to each child.

Our programs

Vocational Program

A Vocational Programs for kids with Special needs include basic practical Life Skills that may not be covered in the day-day-curriculum such as folding towels or clothes.

Academic Program

We make use of INDIVIDUAL EDUCATIONAL PLANs/ IEP to tailor a child’s learning goals. The IEP is a written plan to describe the goals set out for the individual child in conjunction with the parents and the therapists (if there are any).

Arts and Crafts

Arts and Crafts is incorporated into many activities, some is a 5min in-betweenactivity or it may be a larger project that consolidates a theme/ for part of a practical Assessment task.

Sensory Play

From birth through to early childhood, children use their senses to learn, explore and try to make sense of the world around them. They do this by touching, tasting, smelling, seeing, moving and hearing.

Social Development

Social Development in aimed at building and promoting skills for social interaction , appropriate social behaviours and social awareness.

Music

Music is integrated into many classroom activities during which the kids follow movement/ dance, sing, play musical chairs or use musical instruments, ribbons or flags. Engagement in music at any age the benefits can be seen at many levels including social-emotional, physical, creative, proprioceptive and cognitive.

Cooking and Baking

We incorporate baking and cooking as often as we can. We use age appropriate (or adapted for their age) recipes of “real food”, food they could actually make as part of a healthy balanced diet.

Video Modeling

Video Modelling is an intervention, whereby students learn a skill or concept by watching a video of a model performing a specific skill or demonstrate an example of a concept.

Is Thrive right for your child?

Before enrolment we ask that parents bring their child for a day or two so that
we can see what they need and how they interact with the other kids. Usually a few
days will give us and you a good indication of whether we are the right fit for your
child.

Snacks and Lunch

Due to Special Needs Children having so many different dietary needs, we ask that
each parent pack their child’s own snack and lunch. We encourage parents to send
wholesome food. Please do not send sugary snacks and drinks. The children do have
access to microwave.
